The Smokery Recipe Contest

UPDATE: Our recipe contest deadline has been extended until December 18, 2016 at 11:59pm. That means there’s still time to submit YOURS!

We love making our smoked salmon… almost as much as we enjoy eating it! Whether it’s a bagal with lox for breakfast, our famous Old Irish salmon sprinkled over a summer salad, or our Maplewine-flavored salmon served with home fries and scrambled eggs for breakfast—there are innumerable ways to enjoy our hot- and cold-smoked salmon!

But, now we want to know how YOU enjoy eating any of our delicious salmon flavors! We’ve had a few of you at the markets share your recipes with us, so we thought it would be a great idea if you could share those recipes with everyone! Just in time for the holidays, we’re accepting entries for The Smokery Recipe Contest!

The contest starts NOW and ends December 1st. Winners will be chosen by the middle of December and prizes mailed out (or picked up, if you’re local) just in time to enjoy during the holidays! Interested in submitting your favorite recipe that uses any of our smoked salmon flavors? The, read on!


THE SMOKERY RECIPE CONTEST

DEADLINE: December 1, 2016

DESCRIPTION: With the holidays quickly approaching, we’re sure you’ve already started the planning for all the delicious ways to serve our smoked salmon at your next holiday meal. We’re always curious how our farmers market friends and customers use our smoked salmon during these holiday feasts. Send us your ORIGINAL recipe using any of our delicious smoked salmon products, and you could win one of our famous Gift Baskets! Keep it for yourself, or save it as a gift for someone SUPER special. Recipe photos are appreciated in this contest, but aren’t essential.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to U.S. residents, excluding Hawaii.

PRIZES: All contestants may have their names and recipes published in a “Recipes” section of our website and/or our Facebook page.

  • FIRST PRIZE: The Smokery’s Sampler Pack: six (6) half-pound packages—that’s three (3) pounds—of our most popular hot-smoked flavors. You’ll get Old Irish, Simply Smoked, Classic, Maplewine, Peppered, and the Smoke Master’s “Flavor of the Week.”
  • SECOND PRIZE: Two (2) pounds of ANY smoked salmon flavor of the winner’s choice.
  • THIRD PRIZE: One (1) pound of any of our premium smoked salmon flavors.

DETAILS: Submit your recipe (and optional photo) to michael@thesmokery.com. Use Subject line “The Smokery Recipe Contest.” Please include a phone number, should your recipe be chosen as a winner and we are unable to reach your by e-mail. Also include a short bio about yourself to share with our online community. Prompts include: When did you first try our smoked salmon? Which flavor is your favorite? Are you an online customer or do you visit The Smokery at one of our farmers market locations? How did you first come up with your recipe? Etc.

RULES & REGULATIONS: You may only submit recipes that are your own. If your recipe was inspired by another source, that’s okay—just tell us how you changed it. Plagiarism, however, is absolutely not allowed.

JUDGING: The winners of the contest will be determined by judging all qualifying entrants’ submissions based on the following criteria:

  • Taste: 25%
    Does this recipe taste great with every bite? Does it have mass appeal? Would you want to make this recipe over and over again based on taste alone? Does it contain interesting, yet gratifying flavor combinations?
  • Visual Appeal: 25%
    Does this recipe present beautifully on a plate or in a baking dish? Do your eyes make you want to eat this before you even smell or taste it?
  • Creativity: 25%
    Is the recipe your original idea? Is the recipe reflective of unique twists to ingredient usage? Have you incorporated your personal touch to this recipe?
  • Crowd Appeal: 25%
    Does your recipe appeal to fellow home cooks everywhere? Does the recipe have easy-to-find everyday ingredients and is it easy to make? Does the recipe have a story that will inspire many others to make it?

SELECTION OF WINNERS: Winners will be determined and notified on or about December 15, 2016 by e-mail. Winners have five (5) days from the date of prize notification to respond to The Smokery. If, after five (5) days, the winners fail to respond to our attempts of notification, prizes may be awarded to alternate winners.
